On 14 and 15 December 2015 Geoplin hosted the Central and Eastern European gas conference organised by Eurogas. Founded in 1990, Eurogas represents the wholesale, retail and distribution sectors of the European gas industry. The association aims to promote and strengthen the role of gas in Europe, as well as the smooth functioning of the European internal gas market.

The conference, entitled “The Internal Gas Market: Increasing Security of Supply & Competitiveness in Central and Eastern Europe” brought together high representatives of the European Commission, European Energy Agency ACER, European regulators, energy associations, academia and business leaders.

The main objective of the conference was to find answers to the challenges linked to developing Europe’s natural gas sector and to discuss European trends that set a framework for new strategies.

This way, the conference also offered an insight into the internal European gas market, and it addressed questions such as how to increase security and competitiveness in the gas market. Participants will discuss geographical challenges of the market; optimisation of gas infrastructure; and further investment which will allow closer interconnection of regions and increased stability of the market.
